Uhtend’s event this week

We are hosting a Beyblade meetup with Bombay Culture this Thursday: https://lu.ma/678w20jw

What we got done in the last week

  1. Launched our new website: https://uhtend.com

  2. Got our newsletters onto Beehiiv (we are most likely ending up in your Promotions tab though).

  3. We now have a dedicated section for our paying subscribers on our home page.

  4. Our plan is in motion to host 1-2 events per week.

  5. Hosted another meetup last Sunday, saw 19 people turn up!

(Our last meetup at Uhtend)

Early bird prices almost always remain the same.

If you look at event tickets for a listing you will see discounted ticket prices aka early bird tix.

In a lot of cases this is FOMO at its best — the early bird price will remain the same even on the day of the event.

Organisers use this strategy to get ticket sales in early so they can estimate the number of participants that will turn up — super helpful for logistics and informing the venue in case it’s a collaborative event.

We kinda need more events, honestly.

Mumbai as a city is large in size and volume. This means that there’s always an audience you can serve doing something that has already been done (just don’t copy everything word by word).

A trivia night for Harry Potter hosted in Lower Parel will not necessarily attract anyone from Borivali; you now have the opportunity to host a trivia night in Borivali.

Football meetups? There are turfs just about everywhere. You just need some motivation to get started.

What I am trying to say is simple: we do not have enough events to cater to enough people. You can always experiment and see what works.

More events lead to socialising, connectivity and culture engagement which is good for communities.

Pickleball has really, really taken off

Pickleball in Mumbai has various opinion pieces.

“Just play tennis.“

“It’s a slow sport for old people.“

Despite these snark remarks you will see people joining in almost daily.

Why? It’s easy to play, more inclusive and promotes actually playing sports than discussing the better one.

Pickleball courts are easy to build and are seemingly profitable too (you won’t believe us until a Reel comes along and proves exactly that).

It is to the point where I am worried that football and cricket turfs may go away to make room for more pickleball courts (too pessimistic, I’m aware).

Regardless, do give it a try! It is fun, exciting and gets you moving.

“Woke up today to feel that there’s no concept of spring anymore. In Mumbai it’s summer, hot days with rain & winters that are summers elsewhere.“
